Terminalia arjuna is a large, deciduous tree native to Bangladesh and regions of India. Known in English as the arjuna or arjun tree, it can often be found growing in marshy riverbeds and other riparian zones. Arjuna has large, oblong leaves, smooth, gray bark and pale, yellow flowers.
Arjuna has been a revered herb in Ayurveda for centuries. The bark has a long tradition of use for its affinity for the heart and other beneficial properties. Arjuna bark is oftentimes compared to hawthorn berry uses in traditional European herbalism as they are typically employed for their similar physical and energetic effects.
In Ayurveda, arjuna bark powder is traditionally prepared boiled in ghee or milk. The powder can also be steeped as tea, extracted, encapsulated, or employed topically.
