Our castile soap is a truly luxuriant, extra mild and gentle liquid soap made from certified organic ingredients. No harsh chemicals, additives, colorants, sudsing agents or other ingredients, just pure derivatives from plant sources. Great for the face and body, or as an all-purpose wash, and it makes a wonderful base ingredient for your own soaps and shampoos. While it is not necessary to dilute our castile soap, many people prefer to dilute this soap for certain skin care recipes depending on their unique skin type.
Traditionally castile soap contained olive oil by definition, but that definition is now outdated and the currently accepted definition is much broader. Our castile soap is made with organic coconut, sunflower and castor oils instead of olive oil. We found this new formula to be superior and less “slippery.” It also contains potassium hydroxide. Potassium hydroxide (KOH) is an inorganic compound, also known as caustic potash, that is used to saponify the oils. The formula contains only a small amount, and it does not affect the organic certification of the product. It is a powerful cleaner which suds beautifully and leaves no greasy residue.
Our castile soap is biodegradable under certain conditions when used outside. In order to break down properly, any biodegradable soap must be placed in the soil at a depth of at least six inches or more so that the natural bacteria present in the ground will break it down. It is important to dispose of the soap at least 200 feet inland from any water sources, as the soap does not break down properly in water and can harm aquatic life as it washes through streams, rivers, and into lakes.
