We make this herbal oil using two different techniques depending on the time of year. Both produce the deep-red, fragrant St. John’s herbal oil that we love.
How It’s Made
When available, we infuse our St. John’s wort herbal oil with fresh plant material. Weather conditions and crop success affect how much we are able to produce each year, making our fresh oil maceration a limited supply.
When the fresh material runs short, we use an alcohol intermediary technique with dried plant material. This process starts by adding alcohol to the herb before the oil infusion step, which helps to extract additional alcohol-soluble properties. For this method, you will notice that the ingredient list will include alcohol and water. The water is a natural part of the alcohol solution and does not affect the shelf-life.
Ingredients
Fresh herb: Organic olive oil, organic St, John’s wort, and vitamin E oil.
Dried herb: Organic olive oil, organic St. John’s wort, organic alcohol (organic alcohol, water), and vitamin E oil.
