Perhaps best known and enjoyed for its sweet red fruits, Fragaria vesca can be equally appreciated for its delightful tasting leaves. Strawberry leaf has astringent properties and has been employed in traditional herbal practices for both its healthful and delicious qualities. This herbaceous perennial is a member of the rose family and grows throughout the Northern Hemisphere in meadows, hillsides, and along forest trails. Dried leaves can be steeped as strawberry leaf tea, blended into herbal infusions, and used in topical applications.
The strawberry plant is a creeping perennial vine native to Europe with indented leaves in groups of three growing on the stems below the flowers and fruit. Strawberries come in endless varieties but all leaves of all strawberries contain healing tannins.
