Our organic hemp essential oil is steam distilled from Cannabis sativa grown in the Pacific Northwest. With a clear to pale green hue, it helps give skin a healthy glow and lends beautiful, fresh herbal notes to perfume blends and cosmetics.
Hemp is one of the fastest growing plants in the world and is used in fabric, building material, food, fuel, paper and more. Archeological findings trace hemp cultivation back to 8,000 BCE, and it was used to create the world’s first known paper in China around 150 BCE.
This distilled leaf and flower essential oil differs from hemp carrier oil, which is a fatty oil pressed from hemp seeds. Neither the seed oil or essential oil contain traceable quantities of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD).
Aroma
This effervescent oil has an herbaceous and tangy aroma characteristic of the hemp plant, with bitter and citrusy notes. It becomes earthier with a lengthy drydown.
Constituents
This oil contains β-myrcene, limonene, β-pinene, and α-pinene.
β-myrcene is found in hops, juniper berry, pink pepper, and ravensara. Limonene is found in most citrus oils such as sweet and bitter orange, grapefruit, tangerine, and lemon which likely accounts for the citrusy aromas in this oil. Limonene is also found in palo santo and camphor. β-pinene appears in pine, fir needle, galbanum, and lemon. You will find α-pinene in many oils like myrtle, cypress, pine, St. John’s wort, and black pepper.
Blending and Uses
Hemp essential oil is strong on its own and helps add depth to aromatherapy and perfume blends. For a clean and harmonizing diffuser blend use it with tangerine (or another favorite citrus oil) and pine.
Dilute in hemp carrier oil for a skin nourishing moisturizer useful for dry and combination skin types. It can also be added to other body care recipes for the hair and scalp with rosemary, cedarwood, or sandalwood. Add to your favorite lotion or cream formulations to support smooth, healthy skin.
It is a beautiful addition to aromatic blends in body sprays, perfumes, and aroma sprays to add calm and green earthy notes. Hemp essential oil is supportive of relaxation and restful sleep and can be combined with lavender or clary sage to use in the bath or before bed in a diffuser or massage oil.
Mix with peppermint, lemon balm and your favorite carrier oil in roll-on bottles to apply directly to the temples.
Packaging
5 mL, 1/2 oz., and 1 oz. sizes are packaged in an amber glass bottle with a reducer cap. Larger sizes are packaged in amber screw cap bottles and do not come with reducers or droppers.
