Commonly known as the toothache plant, the stimulating aerial portions create salivation and have historically been employed as a protectant for teeth. This botanical contains spilanthol, which is the active constituent that is responsible for its healthful properties. It is indigenous to Brazil, and now is found throughout the world.
Spilanthes is utilized in multiple healing traditions including Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Ayurveda, and western folk herbalism. It is often used in acute conditions for its beneficial properties and is frequently associated with its affinity for the mouth. In TCM, spilanthes is considered energetically stimulating and warming and is employed to disperse stagnant energies. This herb has an extensive history of use in Ayurveda and is thought to affect all three doshas. Spilanthes was commonly employed in wellness formulas, for supporting the respiratory system, and for minor pain. In western herbalism this herb has been relied on for its energetically relaxing, warming, and diffusive qualities.

Mildly aromatic spilanthes extract with its intense tingly nature can be taken in water or juice, or combined with other extracts including propolis, myrrh, or echinacea. The tincture can also be added to teas like echinacea & elder tea or lemon tea.
