Product Details

This species of sarsaparilla is a woody, perennial climbing vine that grows natively in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. The name is derived from the Spanish sarza, signifying brambles, and parilla, signifying vine. This plant from the lily family has large leaves that are prominently veined, and heart shaped. Sarsaparilla is a renowned ingredient of classical root beer, thought to be added for bubble creation, while sassafras was utilized as a flavoring component.

Sarsaparilla was historically used as an herbal remedy until the early 1900s, when thereafter it was viewed as merely a beverage. Traditionally, this botanical was employed for its beneficial properties by the indigenous people of the native regions where it thrives, often being made into a general health tonic. Sarsaparilla root is commonly prepared as an infusion, made into a syrup, or crafted into a tincture.

Our sarsaparilla extract is created in small batches by our expert team at our extract facility in Eugene, Oregon. This tincture is aromatic and has an earthy, root-like flavor. Sarsaparilla extract can be taken directly on the tongue or in water or juice. It also combines well with other extracts including elder berry or immune care blend, among others. Sarsaparilla extract makes a nice addition to echinacea & elder tea for an extra boost.
