Yucca glauca is a succulent native to central North America. It spans from the Canadian prairies of Alberta and Saskatchewan southward through the Great Plains to Texas and New Mexico. Belonging to the Agavaceae family, yucca is an evergreen perennial with long, narrow leaves that form a basal rosette. The botanical name “glauca” derives from the Latin “glaucus” meaning to have a pale grey or bluish-green appearance.
Yucca has many traditional uses with its flowers and seed pods being used as food, its leaves used in weaving, and the roots for their healthful benefits. The root contains saponins and has been employed as a soap, lending the name “soapweed”. Tribes of the Southwest utilized the leaves of yucca to make soap, shampoo, and other hygiene related items, including dental floss. The root is often made into extract to harness the wellness properties within.
Our yucca tincture is made from the dried roots of the plant in small batches at our extract facility in Eugene, Oregon by our expert team. Yucca extract can be blended with devil’s claw extract, or cornsilk extract, among others. It can be taken in water or juice or added to a cup of tea like turmeric ginger tea.
