We are thrilled to partner with an organic FairWild producer of spikenard essential oil. Also known as jatamansi, this remarkable oil is steam distilled from roots that are responsibly harvested in the Himalayan scrublands of Nepal.
Spikenard is prized for its deep, rich aroma and exceptional fixative properties. Aromatically calming and grounding, it is often used in applications similar to vetiver.
Aroma
A complex aroma with prominent earthy notes and green undertones that are sweet, musky, and resinous. Some may associate its scent with a blend of vetiver and valerian.
Blending & Use
Spikenard is a wonderful base note with strong fixative properties, helping to add depth and longevity to aromatic blends. Its relaxing scent can be incorporated into massage oils, bath salts, and personal fragrance formulations. It shines as a foundational note in oriental and woody botanical perfume compositions.
Jatamansi blends beautifully with resinous oils such as frankincense and myrrh, complements woody aromas like sandalwood and cedarwood, and provides earthy support for sweet florals including jasmine and ylang ylang.
Packaging
5 mL, 1/2 oz., and 1 oz. essential oils are packaged in amber glass bottles with drop reducers for easy application. 4 oz. and larger sizes are packaged in amber screw cap bottles and do not come with reducers or droppers.
Precautions
This oil has no known precautions. Never use essential oils undiluted, in eyes or mucus membranes. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified and expert practitioner. Keep away from children.
Before using topically, perform a small patch test on your inner forearm or back by applying a small quantity of diluted essential oil and apply a bandage. Wash the area if you experience any irritation. If no irritation occurs after 48 hours it is safe to use on your skin.
