We're working with the Non-GMO Project to verify a selection of our products! These ingredients have been chosen because they are produced from plant crops that are known to be at risk of GMO contamination. Thankfully, most herbs and spices are not in danger of industrial genetic modification, so organic certification is our go-to for insuring that our herbal goodies are grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, GMO seed stock, or irradiation. Taking this commitment one step further, we listened to the herbal community and now have products verified through the Non-GMO Project as well.
If you wish to request a copy of our Non-GMO Project Certification of Compliance, please contact the Regulatory Compliance Department at qc@mountainroseherbs.com.
Our herbs, spices, teas, extracts, oils, and various bulk ingredients are Kosher certified by Earth Kosher with "Pareve" status, which in the dietary laws of Judaism is a classification of edible substances that contain neither dairy nor meat in any form as an ingredient. These dietary laws state that Pareve ingredients are permitted for use with both meat and dairy meals.
Inspections are performed throughout the year under the supervision of Rabbi Zecharyah Tzvi Goldman. These inspections include our facilities, processing and handling methods, product packaging and labeling, and point of origin for our Kosher materials.
We are proud to offer one of the nation's largest lines of Kosher herbs, spices, teas, and oils, and we are honored to be affiliated with Earth Kosher, who shares our philosophies concerning organic quality and protecting the planet.
If you have any questions concerning our Kosher certification or wish to request a copy of our certificate for any of the products you have ordered, please contact the Regulatory Compliance Department at qc@mountainroseherbs.com. Learn more about Earth Kosher!
Unlike traditional fair trade programs that merely certify products, the Fair for Life program thoroughly reviews Mountain Rose Herbs from top to bottom, evaluating and auditing our working conditions, labor practices, environmental programs, social benefits, and company transparency. Not only does the Fair for Life program certify our entire company as an employer and community member with For Life Social Responsibility certification, but it additionally reviews and monitors the origins of our fair trade products to ensure complete compliance with the Fair for Life Fair Trade program.

Mountain Rose Herbs is proud to offer the first Certified Forest Grown American Ginseng in partnership with the United Plant Savers, and we are pleased to offer certified organic Forest Grown ginseng roots and leaves that were grown in their native ecosystem - the forested mountains of Appalachia! The plants are tended under the shade of the forest canopy, not shade cloth, allowing them to remain connected to their natural habitat. The roots and leaves are sustainably harvested from private forests that are stewarded by farmers dedicated to preserving this important beneficial plant for the future.
If you have any inquiries concerning our Forest Grown status and certification, please forward your requests to: qc@mountainroseherbs.com.

Mountain Rose Herbs is the first Oregon company to receive a Zero Waste Facility Certification from Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI). Not only did we make history in the state of Oregon, but we also achieved the highest available certification - Platinum! We are committed to offering the highest quality organic herbs and spices available. We're also driven to combat negative environmental impacts of packaging and waste at our facility. Our first priority is to make sure we only use what we need, and that's one reason we adopted our Zero Waste Policy back in 2007. At that time, we emptied a dumpster four to five times a month. After instituting a zero waste policy, we began to empty the same dumpster only once a month. Even as our business continues to grow, we still only empty one dumpster a month. In 2015, we diverted over ninety-six percent of our waste from the landfill. Download our Zero Wast Facility Certification (PDF)
In 2018, we became an Oregon Benefit Company, a legal corporate status which states that Mountain Rose Herbs provides a “general public benefit”— a material positive impact on society and the environment—through our business decisions and operations. We are a values-based company committed to transparency and accountability.
In compliance with Oregon state law, we amended our bylaws and selected B Lab's Impact Assessment tool as a third-party standard by which to gauge our impact. To be clear, Benefit Companies are not the same as B Corp businesses. B Corp is a certification managed by B Lab, while Benefit Companies adhere to a certain set of mandates outlined by the state of Oregon and self-assess using a third-party standard (in our case, B Lab's highly regarded assessment tool).
About Our Benefit Report: Mountain Rose Herbs is proud to be an Oregon Benefit Company, committed to providing a public benefit to people, plants, and planet. Our focus isn't about making a profit, but about cultivating relationships and caring for the planet. Our Benefit Report outlines what it means to be an Oregon Benefit Company, how we measure our impact, and our goals for improvement.
