Trigonella foenum-graecum has been used in herbalism and culinary purposes for millennia. It is often utilized as a spice especially in Indian, Egyptian, and Middle Eastern cuisines. Fenugreek seed has a maple-like flavor that makes it a wonderful ingredient in baked goods and confectionaries. It’s sweet flavor also makes it an ideal flavoring agent for imitation maple syrups.
In ancient Egyptian herbalism, fenugreek seed was soaked and then pounded into a topical paste. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, fenugreek has been utilized for generations for its warming and bitter energetics. And Ayurveda and traditional Western herbalism also have long histories of employing the emollient and mucilaginous seeds for their healthful qualities.
