Product Details

Our tagetes essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering plant Tagetes minuta, more commonly known as the southern marigold.

Native to South America but cultivated in Madagascar, this plant has been used by indigenous populations for millennia. Its beneficial properties include the support of occasional respiratory complaints and calming, emotionally relaxing qualities.

The systems affected by it’s use suggest an aromatic application may be more suitable than a topical, especially considering the photosensitive nature of this oil.

Aroma Tagetes essential oil has a fresh and herbaceous aroma with powerful notes of green apple and a subtle floral undertone. It is aromatically strong with complex notes that are interesting to blend with.

Constituents This oil contains ocimene, dihydrotagetone, tagetone, and tagetenone, most of which are specific ketones to tagetes essential oil.

(Z)-β-Ocimene is also found in basil, hemp, neroli and tarragon.

Blending and Uses This oil blends well with bergamot, citrus oils, clary sage, jasmine, lavender, and lemon.

Combine tagetes with eucalyptus, and peppermint in your diffuser to support encourage open airways. Another combination option could be tagetes, lavender, rosemary and cedarwood.

Tagetes brings rich, complex notes to fragrance blends and should be avoided topically if planning on being outside in the sun.

Packaging 1/2 oz. and 1 oz. essential oils are packaged in amber glass bottles with drop reducers for easy application. Larger sizes are packaged in amber screw cap bottles and do not come with reducers or droppers.

Safety This oil is phototoxic. Never use essential oils undiluted, in eyes or mucus membranes. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified healthcare practitioner. Keep away from children and pets.

Before using perform a small patch test on your inner forearm or back. Apply a small quantity of diluted essential oil and cover with a bandage. If you experience any irritation, use carrier oil or cream to further dilute the essential oil, and then wash with soap and water. If no irritation occurs after 48 hours, it is safe to use on your skin. Learn more about using essential oils here.
