Elder is a perennial shrub that is native to Europe, northern Africa, parts of Asia, as well as North America. The elder can be found growing along hedgerows, forest perimeters, and in gardens as an ornamental. A member of the Viburnaceae family, elder has hollow young stems, pinnate leaflets, and panicles of white flowers ripening into dark, black berries.
The elder berry has an extensive history of use and folklore in traditional healing practices around the world. Elder berries have also been used for making preserves, wines, and winter cordials. Our current offering of elder berry tincture comes to us from certified organic stands of Sambucus nigra. Dried berries are macerated in organic alcohol by our expert team to create an effective extract. Elder berry extract is dark in color and tastes sweet. It can be blended with other extracts to create a wide range of formulations, such as with propolis extract or echinacea extract. Try adding elder berry tincture to culinary recipes such as smoothies, oatmeal, mocktails, herbal teas, and syrups. This extract can also simply be taken directly on the tongue or in water.
