Product Details

Skullcap is a member of the Lamiaceae, or mint, family and has ridged leaves with slight flowers that often range in color from purple and blue to pink and white. The name is derived from these two-lobed blossoms that resemble the military helmets worn by early European settlers. This hardy plant thrives in the woods and swamplands of eastern North America and grows between 1 and 4 feet tall.

Early European immigrants learned the use of skullcap from Native Americans, who had traditionally utilized the botanical as soothing tea for supporting the nerves. It was touted by settlers as an effective combatant against rabies, lending the common name of mad dog weed. This was later discarded, and herbalists steered their focus towards the plant’s powerfully inherent value for facilitating relaxation.

Our skullcap extract is crafted with fresh, organic aerial portions and organic alcohol. Somewhat bitter and verdant in flavor, it can be combined with a variety of extracts including valerian, passionflower, or chamomile. Skullcap tincture is commonly taken in water or juice or added to teas such as peace tea or evening repose tea for a healthful boost.
