Zingiber officinale is an aromatic and tropical herb that is widely cultivated in many countries around the equator. A zesty and warming spice, ginger root has been used to flavor culinary dishes and beverages for millennia. Ginger is a member of the Zingiberaceae family which also houses turmeric and cardamom. An aromatic and perennial herb, ginger is most likely native to tropical Asia, however the plant has been cultivated for so long that the exact origin is unclear.

Ginger has been valued as a zesty spice and a reliable herb for centuries, with the first recorded uses found in ancient Sanskrit and Chinese texts. The pungent root has been utilized in Greek, Roman, Arabic, and Unani Tibb healing traditions as well as in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda. Ginger is now a widely known herb in most parts of the world and has been incorporated into many more folk herbal practices. For thousands of years, ginger was utilized in TCM to support the lung, spleen, heart, and stomach meridians. Ginger root is considered energetically hot and acrid in TCM and energetically pungent and sweet in Ayurveda. Ginger root supports healthy digestion and helps relieve occasional upset stomach and nausea.*

Our ginger tincture is made with fresh, organic root resulting in a liquid extract that is pungent and warming. This aromatic tincture can be made into tablets, blended into syrups, and added to mocktails and cocktails for an herbal kick. Ginger extract can even be added to warm teas, juice, or water. Ginger’s “heat” makes it an excellent helper or carrier herb in many polyherbal formulations. Can be blended with echinacea root extract, feverfew extract, or turmeric extract to name a few.
