Peppercorns are the fruits of Piper nigrum, an evergreen climbing vine that is native to southwestern India. Black, white, and green peppercorns all come from the same plant, but are differentiated in taste and color based on harvest times and processing methods. The green peppercorn is picked unripe and then freeze dried to capture its green color and unique flavor. Our organic green pepper has a fresh, piquant flavor and is delicious in marinades and pickling spice blends.

Green peppercorns have a bright aroma, crisp flavor, and uniform green color. Due to the fact that green peppercorns decay rather quickly, they are either pickled in brine or freeze dried to preserve them. The green peppercorns offered by Mountain Rose Herbs have been freeze dried.

Green peppercorns have a unique piquant and fresh flavor compared to black peppercorns. They have been used quite liberally in French, Creole, and Thai cooking, and can be substituted in any dish that calls for regular pepper. Unlike black or white peppercorns, green peppercorns can easily be crushed between your fingers just prior to use.

Our bottled organic whole green peppercorns are packaged in a clear glass bottle with a built-in grinder top. 4 oz., 8 oz., and 1 lb. peppercorns are packaged in clear resealable plastic bags.

Consumption of the fruit should not exceed small amounts for use as a spice. We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.
