A member of the mustard family, horseradish is known for its hot and pungent flavor. The root is typically prepared as a condiment and served alongside proteins, stews, or roasted vegetables. Native to southern Russia and eastern Ukraine, this herbaceous perennial is commonly cultivated. Horseradish has leaves that grow in clumps and a large, fleshy taproot that is white to tan in color and can reach lengths of up to a foot or more.
Horseradish has a history of use in traditional European herbal practices dating back hundreds of years to the ancient Greeks. Considered energetically hot, horseradish root was traditionally used as a panacea from wintertime ailments to digestive system support. Records of horseradish’s culinary uses as a condiment can be traced back to the 1600s.
Our horseradish extract is created in small batches using fresh, organic roots and certified organic alcohol. It is strong, earthy, and pungent with characteristic horseradish flavors.
