Lobelia does especially well in moist, but loamy soil in partial shaded. This tiny, shrub-like plant is a member of the Campanulaceae family. The dried aerial portions are used for making teas, tinctures, and syrups.
Characterized by its dark green, toothy leaves, and angular stems with bristly hairs, Lobelia inflata blooms tiny, white flowers in the summer up until the first frost. It is very successful at self-seeding and produces multiple seed pods that release before the winter months.
Lobelia is a highly adaptable plant and can do well in a variety of conditions. It is easy to grow from seed. Once the danger of frost has passed, seeds can be scattered lightly over prepared top soil. If evenly watered and kept moist, they should germinate within a couple of weeks and flourish as temperatures warm.
