We rely heavily on our respiratory system to get us through our days and our nights. This beautiful and usually subconscious act sometimes needs a little extra support. This can be especially true throughout the cooler, damper months, during seasonal changes, or at times when the air isn’t as conducive to deep breathing as we’d like. Our in-house experts have crafted a formula just for these times that includes aromatic and demulcent herbs traditionally employed to encourage healthy respiration, soothe irritated membranes, and assist with normal productive expectoration.
Our chest care combination extract can be added to water or juice or taken directly on the tongue and includes:
Osha: An aromatic botanical, osha has a long history of use in traditional Native American herbal practices for its wellness-supporting properties and in helping to support the healthy functioning of the respiratory system. Osha root has a strong, complex flavor profile and is considered energetically warming and drying.
Ginger: A zesty and warming spice, ginger root has become a staple in culinary dishes and beverages. For millennia, ginger root has been utilized in traditional herbal practices from around the globe including in Traditional Chinese Medicine where it is believed to affect lung, spleen, heart, and stomach meridians.
Elecampane: Elecampane is known for its tall, bright yellow flowers and large, aromatic roots. Since the time of ancient Greece, the root has been used in traditional European herbalism for its beneficial properties including its specifical affinity for the respiratory tract.
Horehound: Native to Asia and Europe, horehound grows in a wide range of climates and is now naturalized to North America. The herb has a long history of use for its wellness-supporting properties in traditional European folk herbalism and was often prepared in support of the respiratory tract.
Licorice: Licorice root has been an important herb in Eastern and Western traditions of herbalism for thousands of years. Pliny the Elder recommended it to clear the voice amongst other beneficial properties. A demulcent, licorice is often used to moisten, sweeten, and harmonize herbal formulas.
Marshmallow: Marshmallow has been used for millennia as an edible food and for its soothing properties. A favorite botanical demulcent, marshmallow root was given to soothe and moisten mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive, and urinary tracts in traditional global herbal practices for millennia.
Mullein: A classic lung herb, the silvery green leaves of mullein have been utilized for thousands of years in herbal traditions. Dioscorides was one of the first to recommend mulleins use in lung conditions around 2,000 years ago in ancient Greece.
Pleurisy: Native to eastern North America, pleurisy has a long tradition of use amongst indigenous tribes who would chew on the root for its wellness properties including lung support. American folk herbalism considers pleurisy root a demulcent with cooling energetics which help to promote expectoration and moisten tissues.
