Native to tropical India, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka, guduchi has a rich history of use in traditional forms of healing. Guduchi translates from Sanskrit as “the one who protects the body”. Prized for its versatility, guduchi forms the basis of many Ayurvedic herbal formulations.
A member of the Menispermaceae family, Tinospora cordifolia is a deciduous, climbing shrub with long twining branches. Guduchi sports simple, alternate, heart-shaped leaves and racemes of yellow flowers which ripen into red, bean shaped fruits. The shape of guduchi’s leaves has earned it the name, heart-leaved moonseed. This herbaceous, perennial vine loves to grow along hedges and up trees.
Guduchi has a long history of use in Ayurveda as an herb that works on all three doshas with a special affinity for the circulatory, digestive, and reproductive systems. Considered energetically heating and sweet, guduchi is also bitter and astringent. Guduchi was employed for millennia in Ayurveda as an adaptogen. While the entire plant has healthful applications, the stem is most often utilized for its particular nourishing, rejuvenating, and wellness supporting properties. As such, it is often utilized in many Ayurvedic formulations.
Our organic guduchi powder is ground from stems. Traditional preparations include blending into milk and infusing in oil. Guduchi powder can also be decocted, macerated as a liquid extract, or encapsulated.
