Passionflower is native to the southeastern United States, Central America, and South America. This vining plant has showy, intricate flowers, which caught the eye of Spanish missionaries who correlated the inflorescences with the Passion of the Christ, which lent the name passion flower. Passiflora edulis has an extended history of traditional use dating back to prehistoric times. Seeds of an antiquity of thousands of years have been discovered around Virginia, where the Algonkian Indians once thrived. Various indigenous peoples have utilized the passionflower plant both in herbalism and as a food source.

Passionflower is full of beneficial compounds which are cooling to the body, calming to the mind, and soothing to the spirit. This botanical is considered a nervine in the practice of herbalism. It promotes natural relaxation and helps in coping with stress.*

Our passionflower extract is made from fresh, organic aerial portions by our expert team. The extract has an earthy and somewhat bitter flavor. It can be taken directly on the tongue or in water or juice. This endearing herb pairs well with a variety of other extracts including valerian extract, skullcap extract, or cramp bark extract. For an extra botanical boost, this tincture can be added to evening repose tea.
