Eriodictyon californicum is a small, sticky-leafed evergreen shrub native to western and southwestern USA and northern Mexico that is a member of the Hydrophyllaceae family. Yerba santa, meaning “holy weed”, was a name given to this plant by the Spanish priests who were impressed with its beneficial qualities.
An aromatic and astringent botanical, yerba santa has been used in traditional herbalism for centuries. Native Americans and early settlers utilized this herb for its affinity for supporting the respiratory system. With its pleasant taste, yerba santa has been employed as a food flavoring and as an additive to herbal syrups to disguise other ingredients. It is commonly infused into tea, incorporated into honeys and syrups, extracted, or employed in external applications.
Our yerba santa extract is made in small batches at our extract facility in Eugene, Oregon by our expert team for quality and efficacy. Yerba santa blends well with elecampane extract or mullein extract, among others. It can be taken directly on the tongue or in water or juice. Add some to a cup of tea such as echinacea & elder for a healthful boost.
