All of us here at Mountain Rose Herbs are grateful for all of the hard-working honeybees in the world! These wonderful creatures are responsible for pollinating several of our favorite food crops here in Oregon, including apples, blueberries, cherries, and melons. This seed set features eight packets of flowering plants that help to attract bees to your garden, resulting in higher rates of pollination and potentially better yields of fruits and vegetables.
Each Honeybee Lover Seed Set contains one packet each of:
Lemon bergamot (Monarda citriodora) This species features deep purple, showy bracts that bloom from May to August, and have been known to attract butterflies and hummingbirds. These plants thrive on dry, sunny exposures.
True comfrey (Symphytum officinale) This purple-flowered variety is a perennial plant with a cluster of drooping flowers that grow only on one side of the stem.
Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis) This woody perennial shrub has long, leafy, half-whorled spikes of tiny little purple flowers that produce a sublime aroma.
Greek mullein (Verbascum olympicum) This striking biennial has two distinct growth phases. The plant will create a large rosette of pointed leaves during its first year of growth. During the spring or summer of the second year it produces an impressive flowering spike of small yellow flowers.
Common oregano (Origanum vulgare) This perennial herb begins as a small rosette of dark green, oval shaped leaves that grow in opposing pairs along the stem. It can grow up to 2 feet tall and blooms small bunches of purple to pink flowers.
Pleurisy (Asclepia tuberosa) This herbaceous perennial produces clusters of gorgeous orange and deep yellow flowers that has been known to attract honeybees as well as butterflies.
Scarlet sage (Salvia coccinea) This annual features numerous striking cardinal scarlet blossoms. These flowers and their nectaries attract several species of honey bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Temperate tulsi (Ocimum sp.) This bushy annual has small leaves and glorious spikes of small purple flowers with an excellent fruity aroma. In addition to attracting your favorite pollinators, the leaves of this plant can also be made into a tasty infusion.
