With a name that endearingly translates to “winter loving”, Chimaphila umbellata is a small, evergreen perennial in the Ericaceae family. Pipsissewa grows in dry woodlands throughout temperate regions in the Northern Hemisphere, especially across southern Canada and the northern United States. This botanical has been used for hundreds of years by the region’s indigenous cultures. While pipsissewa roots have been used as a flavoring agent in candies and soft drinks, it is the astringent leaves that are employed for their beneficial properties. The leaves have very little scent until they are rubbed to release a pleasant but mildly “puckery” odor. Pipsissewa herb is commonly decocted as a tea, tinctured, or prepared for topical application.
Our pipsissewa extract is made in small batches at our extract facility in Eugene, Oregon by our expert team for quality and efficacy. This extract can complement our urinary care extract blend well. Pipsissewa tincture has an astringent taste and can be taken on the tongue or in water or juice, or even in a mug of lemon tea.
