The evergreen juniper is a tree native to Europe, Asia, and northern parts of North America where it is especially bountiful in central Texas and eastern Oregon. Its history and folklore are incredibly long reaching with the first recorded use being found in an Egyptian papyrus from 1500 B.C.E. In Syria, juniper was the symbol of the Canaanites’ fertility goddess Ashera. Western European legend states that having a juniper tree planted next to the front door of a home keeps witches from entering. Juniper as incense has been utilized by the Scottish to ward off the evil eye, and by the Tibetans to remove demons.

Numerous parts of Juniperus communis have been traditionally used by Native American tribes. The berries have an affinity for the urinary tract and are often employed as a mild diuretic for occasional use. Juniper belongs to the Cupressaceae plant family and its purple, blue, violet, or blackish-brown fruits are harvested in early autumn for culinary and wellness use.

Our juniper extract is made from dried organic berries and organic grain alcohol at our extract facility. The flavor is sharp, crisp, and clean and can be added to water or juice or try adding it to your favorite cup of tea. For an extra boost, combine juniper tincture with our urinary care extract blend.
